ProNardy
About the project
ProNardy is long backgammon done properly — the game you play with your father, a friend, or an opponent two time zones away.
Why it exists
Long backgammon is the game of dinner tables, courtyards and train compartments from the Balkans to Central Asia — and yet online it is almost always substituted with short backgammon, wrapped in ads and in-app purchases. ProNardy does it differently: the exact rules of the long game, free and without advertising.
ProNardy also wants you to play stronger. Every game can be reviewed move by move, the way chess engines do it, and the Academy collects your recurring mistakes and lets you replay them in a trainer. No such review exists for long backgammon anywhere else.
It is built in Ukraine, and the Ukrainian version of the site lives at pronardy.com — the interface switches between Ukrainian and English wherever you play.
Your games are yours
Game history is stored primarily on your own device and works without internet. An account enables syncing between devices — but it is only needed for the online features, not for playing as such.
Frequently asked questions
Is ProNardy free?
Yes. The game is free and shows no ads — no payments, no banners.
Do I need to sign up?
Not for playing the computer, two players on one device, nearby play without internet, or joining a room by invitation. An account (Google or email) is needed to create online rooms, send scheduled challenges, run tournaments, and see your statistics across different devices.
Are the dice fair here?
Rolls come from a cryptographic random number generator (Web Crypto CSPRNG) with no statistical bias. You can check the distribution of rolls in your own games on the statistics screen.
How do I play without internet?
Install ProNardy on your phone (the browser will offer “Add to Home Screen”) — after that, games against the computer and two-player games on one device work fully offline. And two phones side by side can play each other through Nearby play: a direct connection over Wi-Fi or a hotspot, with no server involved.
How do I invite a friend to a game?
Create an online room and send the link in any messenger. Your friend opens it and lands straight in the game — no signup needed on their side.
How is long backgammon different from short backgammon?
Long backgammon has no hitting: you cannot knock an opponent’s checker off or send it to the bar. Both players travel a single ring in the same direction, so the game is a race with positional blocking rather than an exchange of blows. It is the variant known as nardy, played across Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia.
What are Mars and Koks?
They are the price of a win. If the opponent bore off at least one checker it is an Oin, 1 point. Bore off none — Mars, 2 points. Bore off none and still stuck in the starting quarter — Koks, 3 points. Bore off none despite getting all 15 checkers home — Home Mars, 4 points. The names are transliterated from the game’s own tradition, because two of them mean something different from the short game’s scale.
How do I install the game on my phone?
ProNardy is a web app (PWA): open pronardy.com in your phone’s browser and choose “Add to Home Screen” (Android offers this by itself; on iPhone it is in the Share menu). You get an icon, the game launches like a normal app, and it works offline.
